About The Purple Helmet Tournament

The Purple Helmet is a member-led golf tournament held annually in the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Crested Butte, Colorado. The 2027 event will mark our 5th Annual tournament. What started as a fun way for club members and friends to compete has grown into a meaningful tradition that gives back to the community we love.
Our Mission
The Purple Helmet brings together golfers of all abilities for a spirited few days of competition and camaraderie. We combine great golf with excellent food, prizes, and fellowship — all while raising funds to support local nonprofits.
Charitable Impact
100% of net proceeds (after direct event expenses such as course fees, carts, food & beverage, prizes, and basic operations) are donated to Gunnison Valley charities.
Our giving has focused on organizations that strengthen our mountain community, including The Community Foundation of Gunnison Valley and other local nonprofits serving youth, health, education, and environmental causes. Over the first four years, the tournament has raised more than $100,000 for local causes.
How Funds Are Used
- Registration fees cover the direct costs of producing a first-class event.
- Any surplus is distributed as charitable donations.
- We operate as a not-for-profit event organized by volunteers and club members. No individual profits from the tournament.
Detailed summaries of income, expenses, and donations are available upon request.
Who We Are
The Purple Helmet is organized by a small committee of passionate members of our local golf club. We are grateful for the support of contributors, and the generous golfers who participate each year.
Thank you for joining us in making a difference in the Gunnison Valley — one swing at a time!
